WHAT WORKS - WHAT DOESN'T

Alrightie, now. Let us have a brief monologue about media players for FNST Radio. The players that work, lots of them, and the player that doesn't work. ( actually, it does work but you have to read the directions! )

Are you with me so far? We have found that WinAmp and RealPlayer seem to work best for listening to FNST. It also works on Ipod and several other programs. When in doubt, please use either WinAmp or RealPlayer. This helps your listening and stops the multiple hits to our station by incorrectly configured players.

What doesn't work, unless and until, you a/ read the directions and b/ configure the program according to the directions is, NSPlayer. There's probably a reason the creator of this program calls it "Nemesis Player".
If I had to make a guess, it's probable he considers Microsoft and Bill Gates the heart of the evil empire. However, the fact remains thus: If you don't read the directions (destructions?) and configure this player properly, you can not listen to FNST Radio. All you accomplish is a long string of "unable to connect" messages and some disturbance to the station.

Do us, yourselves and other listeners a favor. Use the players that work the best.

Thank you.

November 3, 2007 Part II

Now then, a couple of points. Saturday night, Class Act's background vocals were stronger than I have ever heard them. The sound was clean and full. Having said that, when Tom Paine stepped up to the mic with Dave and Buddy the entire dynamic changed. Things simply went from great to awesome. (is that working for you?)

Tom's voice was always a distinctive part of The Magnificent Men's harmonies just as his sax playing anchored the horn sound. Saturday night was like 1967 was last week. Dave, Buddy and Tom blended as always. It was truly a thrill to see the guys together one more time. Tom, if you're reading this, here's a hint................BE THERE NEXT YEAR!

Terry Crousore and I go back almost 45 years. I first met him when he played an after prom party at my house. Saturday night was a special time as he took the stage with The Mag Men for the first time since 1969.
Somehow, looking to Bob Angelucci's right and seeing Terry there just made things "right".

Bill Richter's playing was icing on the cake. I can understand and accept all the reasons Bill stopped performing but he is such a talented keyboard player and I've missed hearing him.

Remember when I started this and said eight musicians? Well, there is one man who has been missing and I will pay tribute to him. Tom Hoover is the reason I have been blessed with knowing all these people. We met when we were 12 years old and while the years and the entire continent have seperated us, he remains a friend. Tom was the original keyboard player for The Magnificent Men. He played on the first album and left right before things really started taking off for the group. Hopefully, he can find his way to next November's show. Things would then be "full circle".

Okay, I'm done "gushing". As the music from the concert becomes available we'll get it into rotation. As for next year, I'll let y'all know when tickets become available.

November 3, 2007 ( oh what a night ) Part I

As I try to gather my thoughts, a tough thing to do in my advanced years, let me give a history lesson to FNST listeners and blog readers.

I have had the pleasure of knowing eight ( yes, eight, more on that later ) talented musicians for more than 40 years. Beyond knowing them, I have been lucky enough to call them friends. By working for this group, I was able to meet most of the great R&B acts of the 1960's. It was an experience I enjoyed and have treasured my entire life.

Saturday night, November 3, there was a concert at The Whittaker Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Class Act featuring Rita with special guests Dave Bupp and Buddy King former lead singers with The Magnificent Men. Folks, it doesn't get much better than this.............well, maybe it does.

We play Class Act on FNST Radio. Rita Angelucci is one of the greatest voices to ever sing soul music. Bob Angelucci, (leader of the group and drummer) and bass player Jim Seville have comprised 2/3rds of driving rhythm section for more than 40 years. They work so well together there are times it's almost scary. The rest of the band, Dan Wolfe/ guitar, Chuck Ronemus/keyboards, Les Markel/trumpet. Jerry Swalla/sax and Rick Shouck/trumpet, congas, and lead vocals, are equally as talented. Unto themselves, Class Act is amazing and RJ and I are huge fans along with being grateful for having them as friends.

Now, let's talk about Dave Bupp, Buddy King and a few surprises. Bob Angelucci had told me that the rest of The Magnificent Men were going to be there. Sure enough, Tom Paine/sax & second tenor, Bill Richter/organ and Terry Crousore/guitar showed up. Since this night was to be filmed for the documentary, http://www.magnificentmen.org/ , it was more or less expected. The curtain rises, Class Act is in position, Dave and Buddy are on stage and I notice something is out of place. There's an extra microphone on stage. Being the bright fellow I am, it's an instant jump to conclusions..........Tom Paine is going to sing!

The show continues and then the band begins "Philly Dog". Those of you who are familiar with the Mag Men's live album know what's coming....band introductions. As Dave Bupp begins introducing the group I see Chuck Ronemus take the synthesiser off the top of the Hammond organ and another light clicks on. (see how bright I am?) Bill Richter sits down at the organ, on stage, for the first time since 1973. Next, Terry Crousure takes Dan Wolfe's place on guitar and Tom Paine joins Dave and Buddy at the mics. "Ladies and gentlemen, THE MAGNIFICENT MEN!!!!!!!"
