March 30, 2009

The "Other Detroit" Part Two is this weeks show. It's been a lot of fun and brought back a ton of memories, for me.

There are multiple cuts by The Fantastic Four, Roscoe Shelton, and a couple of others.
Edwin Starr, Emanuel Laskey and Sidney Barnes are also on the program.

It's a week for some terrific birthday guests. Marvin, Major Lance, Phillip Wynne of The Spinners and Dave Bupp of The Magnificent Men and Class Of 60 Somethin'.

Again, I have to thank Ginger Oldham and Dave Bupp for supplying so much of the music I've featured, these past two weeks. Thanks to them these songs are not "lost". They're being played, right here, on FNST Radio.

Next week, April 6th, it's back to a normal show (like anything is normal around here) with some bad jokes, birthdays and also a terrific horn group, Bull City Syndicate. I think you're going to enjoy them.

Take care of yourselves and each other

Monday March 23, 2009

The show is done! It's almost entirely about the "Other Detroit-Part 1".

There are 37 songs in two hours. Most them are new to the playlist. There's also a lot of my talking about the artists but, hey, you have to have some bad along with the good.

My thanks to Dave Bupp and Ginger Oldham for the records, knowledge and memories. If it wasn't for them, I couldn't have put these two shows together.

Don't forget, April 15th is the next request night. Please get your e-mails in before Saturday, April 11.

Thank you to everyone listening and telling your friends about FNST Radio. The numbers are growing.

March 16 and 18

Monday's "normal" show is finished and so is Wednesday's Request Night. There's a lot of music in both shows and I hope y'all enjoy them.

We have another special birthday this week. One of our listeners from "across the big pond".
Happy Birthday, Marjo. How does it feel to be 25?

Beginning on the March 23rd show, I'm going to be doing some musicology lessons. We're going to start looking at the "Other Detroit". The singers and groups who recorded outside the Motown Empire. Each week I'll let you in on some of the background information and play more than just one song by these, too often, overlooked artists. It should make for some interesting shows.

I hope you mark your calendars and join me.

March 9, 2009

It's a pretty smooth show for Monday night. War, Wilson Pickett, The Temps, Steve Mancha, The Embers, The Mag Men (of course), even Lulu and a couple of non-R&B artists all join in.

Special birthday greetings to Tom Pane. I admire his sax playing and have always enjoyed his distinctive second tenor voice with The Magnificent Men. It's great to have him playing with Class Act and Class of 60 Somethin'. I can't wait for May 2 at the York Fairgrounds.

To everyone joining us this past week (at least the ones I can see on Shoutcast) welcome to FNST. From California to British Columbia. From the West Indies to Holland, Switzerland and Finland, thank you for stopping by and spending part of your week with us. With all the choices available, it's nice to see so many people on the site.

The mailbox is kind of empty. It would be nice to hear from people.

Take care of yourselves and each other.

March 2, 2009

I hope everybody enjoys the show. There's some great music with a bunch of memories for the "older" listeners. For the younger ones, dig the music and begin makin' memories.

I'd like to thank everyone who joined us in the month of February. I see a lot of listeners from St. Louis to Toronto, from the Islands to Portland Maine and all through Europe. It's just great to check the logs and know that people are enjoying the music we love.

A special birthday wish to a special lady in Virginia Beach. We're very proud of you :-)

Take care of yourselves, and each other.
