March 26, 2010 Johnny Maestro

1939 - 2010

The music world has lost another of it's great talents. Johnny Maestro had one of the purist voices I've ever heard.

It's tough to lose someone you'd met and was a childhood hero. Johnny seemed like he'd always been around from the days I first became really infatuated with music. I knew he'd been ill but somehow you don't allow your mind to encompass the idea that there's a finality involved.

May the good Lord bless and keep you, Johnny. Thank you for the music and memories.

TIME ZONES ----ARRRGH!

Hi there!
As many of you know, FNST has added a 4th time slot for Monday show's.

Now I can't even keep these things straight. I do pretty well with Great Britain, 5 hours ahead of us. The Netherlands and Paris, France are 6 hours ahead. I know the "left coast" is 3 hours behind me and after that, I get lost.

However, using this neat little site:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/personal.html

I get to figure out what time any of the Monday shows will air, anyplace in the world.

It's easy. Just pick an eastern United States city, Washington, D.C. works, and choose either
4:00am, 3:00pm, 8:00pm or 11:00pm.

Next pick the country/city you live in and click select for the result.

I know, as of today with Australia's daylight savings time still in effect, that the 4:00am show airs at 7:00pm in Melbourne and 8:00pm in Perth.

Confused?

SPRING!!

Okay, not really, since it's actually 6:53 am on March 19th, as I write this.
We've had three days of great weather; sunshine, blue skies and temps above 50 degrees.
After our long winter (it began with snow on October 15th) it's almost heaven.

Great show this week. I like it, anyway.
There are tunes for Chi Chi, Duke, Shirley, Lesley and PJ.
Even a couple thrown in just for me.
The first commercial for Class Of 60 Somethin's May 1st party is already airing and
there's a new tune by The Bamboos featuring Kylie Auldist. Their new CD is supposed to be
released today, in fact.

In two weeks, April 5th, there's a special Monday show. If you'd like to know more, or participate, please drop me an e-mail and I'll fill you in. This truly is a listener assisted show.

Meanwhile, do you like good music? Sweet Soul Music?

March 15, 2009

Hey, y'all, have I got a neat show this week.

First of all there are great birthday artists including Sly Stone, Walter Jackson and Nat Cole.
There are some terrific tunes requested by our listeners.
I've done a bit of R&B 101 for you. It's interesting.

Oh, and we have the very first DiNozzo Award. You know the headslap thing from N.C.I.S.?
This recipient is very deserving.........

On the 5th of April (corrected date) I have a special show. It's going to feature my two favorite vocalists, a couple of people I've know for many years. More on this next week, but I know you'll enjoy it.

Have you made plans for May 1st? Class of 60 Somethin's annual spring party is in York, Pennsylvania. If you want more information, contact me.

Have a good week.

Ron Banks of The Dramatics
1951 - 2010

This is where I'm supposed to talk about the show and all kinds of great stuff.

I don't really feel like it.
Losing Teddy and now Ron Banks, doesn't make make it easy to be upbeat.
In fact, it flat out stinks.

The show was already done when news of Ron's passing hit the wires.
Part of the March 15th show will be dedicated to The Dramatics and Ron's memory.

Meanwhile, my prayers go out to Ron's wife and children.

However, The Dramatics carried on with shows this past weekend and so does FNST Radio.

This week celebrates birthdays for a very talented group of people. Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau and a friend of mine for more than 40 years: Tom Pane of The Magnificent Men.

I, also, get to welcome new listeners in the Phillipines and Melbourne, Australia.
Hopefully, they enjoy the music and spread the word about this little project.

There's some new music to be added to the playlist (the techie gnome is gonna love me),
some old favorites and several requests. Did I mention I love requests? I do, really.

Have a good week, take care of yourselves and each other.
