Ollie Woodson May 30, 2010

DETROIT — Ali-Ollie Woodson, who led the legendary Motown quintet The Temptations in the 1980s and '90s and restored them to their hit-making glory with songs like "Treat Her Like A Lady," has died. He was 58.
Motown Alumni Association President Billy Wilson says Woodson died Sunday in southern California after battling cancer. He says Woodson's wife, Juanita, told him about the death.
Woodson wasn't an original member of The Temptations but helped keep them from becoming a nostalgia act.
Woodson joined the group after it produced classic hits in the 1960s and '70s that included "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," "My Girl" and "I Wish It Would Rain."
But his fiery voice helped the group notch "Treat Her Like a Lady" and other R&B hits from 1984 to 1986.

May 31, 2010 Memorial Day

Thank you to all the vets who fought and continue to fight, so we may have the freedom to disagree openly. God bless those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and comfort the loved ones left behind.

It's not about right or wrong wars. It's about honoring those who served and died.

Enjoy the music and please take the time to remember all the men and women who have helped protect our freedoms.

If I simply say Patti Labelle, Sarah Dash and Gladys Knight, does it give you a hint about this show? Some real great birthday guests. Now if I add in, birthday boy, Dave Stewart of Class Act and Class of 60 Somethin' and a Paul Williams tribute, the music keeps on climbing.

I hope everybody has a good week and y'all keep the music playin'.

PD

P.S. Congratulations to Rhonda McDaniel for being at #2 on Cashbox's Beach Music Chart and to Craig Woolard for moving up to #8. Way to go!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dan Wolfe !

His birthday is actually Sunday, May 16th but this is as close as I can get.

For those of you who don't know, Dan is the guitar player for Class Act featuring Rita and has been for 25 years.

Now, staying with any group that long is a major accomplishment but think about this.
For 25 years he's been suffering through Bob's jokes!

I hope you enjoy this week's show. In truth, the weeks are flying by so fast I'm having trouble remembering what's on the shows. Maybe that's just a sign I'm getting old?

Lena Horne

Passed May 9, 2010

There aren't enough words in my vocabulary to

express the admiration I felt for this talented woman.

Singer, actress and civil rights advocate, at a time when it cost

her money out of her own pocket.

Lena Horne was a national treasure. Thankfully, we have her films and records with us, forever.

Thank you, Ms Horne for the music and memories.

May 10, 2010

Okay, let me see what's going on.

First of all, we're up to 70 members on the FNST Radio FaceBook page.
I think this is really neat considering it's all been by word of mouth.
A special hug and "thank you" to Ginger for her constant effort to let people
know about us.

I bought some "new" music this past week and will be working selected cuts into the shows.
Stuff I really like and I hope y'all enjoy it, as well. More unissued cuts by Walter Jackson;
a few really nice tunes by Billy Butler and a song you can hear, this week, by James Crawford.

Birthday artists for this week's show include Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach and Norman Whitfield so you know the music will be great.

The requests are loaded. 'retha, Miss Knight, The Mag Men and even a Commodores hit.
There are even a couple of tunes in there just for me. *grin* I'll let you try and figure which ones.

I'll leave you with one final thought:

As people grow older, they tell worse puns......it's why we're called groan-ups
