First, a bit of background on the title.
Many years ago, about 1973, there were a group of us sitting around with a few brown bottles (and some other stuff in different colored bottles) discussing ballards. Specifically, our favorite ballards.
Opinions were as varied as the musicians and singers, in the discussion. While we could agree on Misty, Skylark, I Wish You Love, Twelfth Of Never, etc. some of the other suggestions were met with more than a few laughs and replies like, "You have all your taste in your mouth!" and "Oh there's a loser."
Someone, and it may have been me, came up with the scotch induced idea to do an entire album dedicated to sad songs and calling it "Lovers and other losers". Kind of a double play on those who've loved and lost and some of the song choices the guys were throwing out.
I've never been able to shake that idea out of my head and when FNST Radio was first planned, one night was immediately dedicated to this idea. So, now you know.................blame the single malt.
I'm glad the listeners are enjoying two hours of ballards. I'd hoped it would be well received. To them, I say "Thank you for the e-mails and kind comments. Please spread the word. It's the only way the station can grow."
Sincerely,
PD

Guess I'm just an old softie. What a tear-jerker tonight. Something about those old ballads the really tug at your hear and bring out emotions you never knew you had. Or the ones where you want to say something and can't think of the words, so you'd hand that special one the 45 and say "listen to this" because it said everything you wish you could.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting array of songs...this show is really a stand out..
