August 4, 2008

Okay, as I write this it's really August 3rd..........oh well.

I hope you enjoy tonight's show. I actually had fun with it and tried to make all the genres fit into a coherent piece. Let me know how you liked it.

I'm already at work on next week's show. Little bit of Jazz, little bit of big band, lots of "aged in soul".

Oh! Want to have some fun? Next time you're in Wal Mart, Target, etc. just take a small bag of M&M's to the service desk and try to put them on lay away.

Be good to yourselves and each other.

PD

  1. Timi Yuro - again? More, more, please.... "Adorable" by the Drifters - a new one to me and so touching. The Tams "I've Been Hurt", a classic Shag/Beach song down h'yeah. Have to admit, usually I like the originals better than the remakes but they are enjoyable. Class Act does an excellent job on their version of "Quiet Place". I'm sure I have a B.J. Thomas 45.

"Somethin' On Your Mind" definitely ranks in my Top 10 favorites by TMM. Once again, Bupp is singing his lil' 'ol heart out and the true rhythm and blues/soul of the group comes through so clear. What a sax! Dragging out just the right notes is so sexy and gives me chills. (Good job Bobby, with the percussions keeping it all together.)

Great choice in DooWop with the "Dreamlovers". Ray Charles on "What'd I Say"? I'm wondering - did he ever record anything that wasn't good?

From a long throwback to The Mills Brothers up to the Spinners and Whitney then to The Ronettes and Righteous Brothers' "He". The diversity in your music choices is always something I look forward to. The changes always seem to just work out fine.

Although an arduous task, I am sure, your hard work pays off with the excellent product you produce. Certainly it is always enjoyable for me. Thank you for making my days just a little bit brighter.

  2. Ginger, thank you for the nice words. Not only for me but the artists, as well.

Just a couple of small corrections.

Class Act does an excellent job on their version of "Quiet Place".

While it is Rita doing the opening line, the lead is carried by Don Hodgen of "Class of '60 Somethin'.

The version of "Something On Your Mind" does indeed feature Dave Bupp and Buddy King of the Magnificent Men but it's from their "Full Circle" EP released about 1986. That great sax is Larry Green.

We do play two versions of the song, both featuring Dave Bupp, one by Class Of '60 Somethin' and the "Full Circle" version, so it's easy to get confused. (I actually had to go back and look at the playlist to figure out which one I played)

I'm always thrilled to get comments from our listeners.

Thanks, and we'll see you in Novemeber at The Whittaker. (and talk long before then)

  5. Dear Anon,

Yes, I have heard the Al Green cut. I have the new cd and we're working it into the Monday Night shows. That particular cut is due to be added August 18.

    Thanks for the note
