December 28, 2009

Last blog of the year (I hope).
This week has a couple of different things.

First off, have you ever heard of a man named George McCurn?
Mister McCurn was considered the finest bass singer in gospel music.
Among the people believing this; Sam Cooke. (tough to argue)
After years of singing gospel with The Kings Of Harmony,
The Fairfield Four, The Pilgrin Travelers and a tour
with The Ink Spots
McCurn finally recorded as a solo artist in 1963.
His first, and to my knowledge, only single
broke into the Billboard Hot 100 but success was sort lived.
Long before Don Williams made "I'm Just A Country Boy"
George McCurn cut a better version. You have to hear the man's range.

I also have a 1964 cut by The Drew-Vels, a bit of Beach Music and even a Country Rock request. As always, there's enough soul to keep you tappin' and rockin'.

Have a safe New Years, Eve and I'll be back next year!

December 21, 2009

On this last blog, before Christmas, I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season as well as heartfelt hope for a healthy and prosperous 2010.
May it be better, for all of us, than 2009 was.

I like the show for this week. There are two weeks worth of birthday guests, quite a few "new" tunes and even a few surprises. I've had fun putting the show together and I hope y'all enjoy the result.

There are a few doubles. The Tempts show up with Eddie's birthday (never a bad thing), Herb Johnson and The Impacts get a double spin with Bobby Eli on guitar. Herb was Bobby's first "pro" gig and led to his introduction to Kenny Gamble. That started a whole lot of good things for the music business and Bobby.

Anytime an artist can get 3 Number 1's, on any chart, off a single album it's a terrific achievement. To do it off the debut CD says a great deal about the artist.
Rhonda McDaniel accomplished this with "Rhonda McDaniel". Falling, Why Am I Crying and Left With A Broken Heart all made it to the top spot. FNST will be playing "Falling" this week.

Our promotional/advertising director, Ginger, tracked down a "new" Billy Scott tune and Daddy C turned me onto a group called "Smokin' With Superman". I have no clue what the name means but the bass player is unreal!

I'd also like to thank "Pocketful O' Soul" for the drop-ins. It's great having the artists we play on FNST actually do plugs for the station. Shades, Don thank you.

Take care of yourselves and each other.

December 14 2009

I'm sorry but there isn't a new show for this week.

Somehow I've encountered another problem on my production
computer. The good news; this time I had all the music backed up.
The bad news; It's going to take a complete rebuild of the software
and that takes a bit of time.

While the Techie Gnome works his magic, I will get started on next weeks' show on the mini 10........this should be interesting.

I'll be back next Monday with bunches of new songs for the playlist, the weakly cereal, etc.

Have a safe week

December 8

This is kinda cool. In the past week FNST radio has had listeners in Brazil, Bahrain, Calumet County California, Ontario Canada, France, Tobago and North Carolina. That's a pretty diverse audience.
Soul Music is it's own universal language:-)

December 7, 2009

Let me see, here.

First off, a belated Happy Birthday to Terry Crousore, guitar player for The Magnificent Men. It was the 5th of December and I blew it.

I have some "new" music this week from
Class Act Salutes The Magnificent Men off the concert DVD,
The Bamboos with Kylie Auldist, The Dynamites,
Craig Woolard's new single and even a song by The Impressions you may not have heard. There's also a tune by Pocketful O' Soul, a group from Central Pennsylvania.

Of course there's the "weakly cereal", birthday guests and usual suspects.

All in all, it's a pretty enjoyable show.

Oh, one more thing.........Christmas shopping:
*Drywall *Insulation *Plumbing Schtuff *Wiring and Outlets *Single Malt Scotch
aaaaaaand *Winning Lottery Ticket LOL

See how easy I am to buy for?
