December 28, 2009

Last blog of the year (I hope).
This week has a couple of different things.

First off, have you ever heard of a man named George McCurn?
Mister McCurn was considered the finest bass singer in gospel music.
Among the people believing this; Sam Cooke. (tough to argue)
After years of singing gospel with The Kings Of Harmony,
The Fairfield Four, The Pilgrin Travelers and a tour
with The Ink Spots
McCurn finally recorded as a solo artist in 1963.
His first, and to my knowledge, only single
broke into the Billboard Hot 100 but success was sort lived.
Long before Don Williams made "I'm Just A Country Boy"
George McCurn cut a better version. You have to hear the man's range.

I also have a 1964 cut by The Drew-Vels, a bit of Beach Music and even a Country Rock request. As always, there's enough soul to keep you tappin' and rockin'.

Have a safe New Years, Eve and I'll be back next year!
