Today's show is truly a labor of love on my part and that of a few other people.
Let me explain, just a bit.
April 3rd is Rita Angelucci's birthday and April 5th is Dave Bupp's.
I've been very priviledged to hear many talented singers.
Two of the best I get to call "friend".
I've had the pleasure of knowing and listening to Dave since 1962.
His voice could blow me away then and it still did right up until he retired in 2008.
Now that's a long time to be impressed by anybody, even if he is a friend.
Many years ago, Buddy King described Dave in the best term I'd heard.
"There are singers and then there are "singers", he said.
It wasn't until years later I learned the term "song stylist" and realized who it fit.
Dave Bupp is a song stylist. He can take any song and when he's done, he owns it.
Today, I get to play some of my favorite tunes from "the professor".
There aren't enough words in my vocabulary to describe Rita Angelucci.
She has one of the greatest voices in soul music and I've been amazed at her power and range since she was 17 years old. (that isn't that long ago.....well it doesn't see like it, to me)
Whether covering 'retha or singing "Ave Maria" at a wedding, Ri is always on the money.
There's a rumor afoot that Class Act featuring Rita may go back into the recording studio.
I certainly hope it's true because the world needs to hear more of central Pennsylvania's best kept secret.
Oh, one other thing. Did I mention she's also one of the nicest ladies I've ever known?
I need to thank a few people for their help with this show. RJ, Barb from Glimmerjewels.com, Lesley (our loyal listener in Melbourne Australia), Ginger (FNST's promotional manager and we wish we could pay her), Daddy C, Chuck Ronemus and Butch Halpin for their help in providing vocal drop-ins. I asked and y'all came through as friends do. Thank you.
04/03 @ 1:29pm OOPS!
I finished this and realized I forgot to thank my youtube friend, in North Carolina.
Thank you, David Payne.
The comment section is open. If you'd like to leave birthday wishes we'll make sure Dave and Ri see them.
as Daddy C so aptly put it:
"Happy Birthday Rita and Dave!"

It's great to see people using this feature. I'm glad everybody enjoyed the "special".
ReplyDeleteI've been so fortunate to spend most of my life around talented people. Central Pennsylvania has some of the most soulful singers and musicians I've ever heard. They set the bar high and consistently try to push it higher. It's my honor to play the music of these talented people.
"Congrats. An extra fine job on last nights show!"
