Post Script: I'd written this before we learned of Johnny Carter's passing.
As one of the original (and last surviving) members of The Flamingos and a member of The Dells since 1959, Mr. Carter is one of the elite few to be inducted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame, twice. His beautiful song writing is represented in The Flamingos' "Golden Teardrops". FNST extends our sympathy to the family and The Mighty Dells. Johnny Carter left us more than memories, he left us music to enjoy for many more generations.
It's an interesting show this week. I have some music that had to be "re-leveled"
and a few tunes that I thought were in rotation only to find out they weren't even in the playlist.
(yes, I know it's hell to get old)
There's new music by Checkmates Ltd., Rhonda McDaniel, The Packers, The Enchanters, and Dennis Coffey amongest others.
Dennis Coffey doesn't ring a bell? He should. As a member of "The Funk Brothers" he's responsible for the great guitar work on Edwin Starr's "S.O.S.", The Isley's "It's Your Thing" and introduced the wah-wah pedal to Motown on "Cloud Nine". Pretty cool, huh?
I have to admit I'm a bit late becoming a fan of Rhonda McDaniel. This lady has a terrific voice!
You can check her out on myspace.com; it's Beach Music at it's best.
Tonight, there's a three song set from Class Of 60 Somethin'. A great cover of The Spinners first hit, "I'll Always Love You" featuring Dave Bupp on lead: Rita Angelucci rips "Mixed Up Shook Up Girl" and Thom Colson (Daddy C) does a better version of "Human" than Tommy Hunt.
BTW, you can see all three tunes over on youtube. Search "DaddyClb" and they'll pop up.
That's about all I have to offer, for this week. Enjoy the show and keep you "pooter" tuned to FNST Radio.
