Okay, let's clear something up, right away. Tonight's show did not start out to be a one man show. Sonny's birthday is August 6, so naturally, he was going to be included in the "birthday guest" segment. Then.......I got to thinking.
Sonny arranged and in some cases, wrote songs that have become such an integral part of our lives. Songs that have been played for almost fifty years on the radio and used in countless commercials and movies. Think about Ghost Busters and the "walking" Statue of Liberty. What do you hear? That's right, Jackie Wilson and Sonny's arrangement of "Higher & Higher". See what I mean?
I only met the man twice. He isn't a friend but he had a huge impact on my life. Throughout The Magnificent Men's recording career, Sonny was the principal arranger on some of their best material. Because he helped "sell" the group, I stayed employed.........there's the 6 degrees of seperation thing.
I've touched on only a portion of the man's work. I tried to do it justice. He's one of the best at his craft and we should all strive to be as good in our chosen field.
Enjoy the show.
